Color Contact Lenses FAQ
If you’ve got dark eyes and have always wanted to sport lighter ones, you are far from alone! With over 50% of the world having brown eyes, you can be assured that most colored contacts out there are designed for brown eyes. However, that does not mean every colored contact lens will create the look you’re imagining. EyeCandys offers a collection of lenses designed for dark-eye coverageso you can get those bright, vivid eyes you’ve been craving! Our Islaseries offers options in brown, green, blue, and grey designed for maximum coverage. EyeCandys Desirecollection will also help you achieve the lighter look you’ve always desired!
Although our colored contacts are designed for beauty, your safety is what we put at the forefront of our minds. Our team carefully assesses every product we design and sell, ensuring they’re safe to wear and manufactured with the highest quality standards. The products we carry have certifications from the FDA (US Drug and Food Administration), Health Canada, KDFA (Korean Drug and Food Administration), and/or CE (Conformité Européenne) 1023.
So you can rest assured when shopping with Eyecandy’s that any color contact lenses you purchase from our site are completely safe to use with proper care!
Unfortunately, colored contact lenses aren’t for everyone. For example, if you suffer from dry eye syndrome, contacts may not be for you. Those who are severely nearsighted may not be able to find contact lenses with a strong enough prescription to fully correct their vision.
Also, some people are allergic to the contact cleaning solution, or even the contacts themselves. As daily cleaning of contact lenses is crucial to eye health for contact wearers, an allergy to the cleaning solution poses a very real issue.
Some doctors recommend that diabetic patients avoid contact lenses as they may be more prone to infection and have more difficulty recovering from infection. Children’s eyes are particularly sensitive and fragile and wearing contacts at a young age could cause eye damage.
People suffering from the following should not wear colored contact lenses, as these eye conditions may be further irritated by inserting lenses:
- Any eye infections (Such as conjunctivitis)
- Any corneal conditions (Such as keratitis)
- Any allergic eye conditions (Such as hayfever)
- Any chronic disease of the eye (Such as glaucoma)
HEMA (Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate) is the classic go-to. It's a soft hydrogel material with a high water content, which makes lenses comfortable right out of the gate. You'll see it listed under brand names like Etafilcon A (used by Acuvue), Polymacon, and Ocufilcon. The tradeoff? Lower oxygen permeability, and they can dry out faster with longer wear.
The most advanced color contact lens material available today, MPC (2-Methacryloyloxyethyl Phosphorylcholine), is a surface treatment added to HEMA lenses that mimics the structure of your eye's natural cell membranes. It makes the lens surface more hydrophilic (water-loving), which means it bonds better with your tear film, repels protein and lipid deposits, and keeps lenses feeling fresher for longer, even with lower water content than a standard HEMA lens.
Silicone Hydrogel is the high-performance option. It lets significantly more oxygen pass through to your cornea compared to traditional hydrogel, making it the preferred material for extended or all-day wear. Many of our longer-wear lenses use silicone hydrogel for exactly this reason.
HEMA + MPC combined gives you the best of both: the softness and comfort of hydrogel with the improved moisture retention and cleanliness that MPC provides. Several lenses in our lineup use this combo for all-day wearability without the dry-eye drama.
Regardless of material, all lenses still require the same care routine. Always follow the recommended wearing schedule, use fresh solution, and never sleep in lenses unless they're specifically labeled for extended wear.
Here are our customer favorites for natural looking lenses that DON'T look like stickers: Glossy Ivory, Glossy Hazel and Sunlit Hazel. these will work best on dark brown eyes and brighten them up slightly. For greys, our most realistic-looking bestsellers are Isla Mirage Grey and Sugarlook Grey. For greens, we suggest Glossy Green and Satin Olive. All these have been specially designed with a non-pixellated pattern and graduated translucency towards the centre for a seamless blending effect. Trust us when we say this because it literally takes us 5-6 iterations per design (and dozens of people continually testing over the span of 2-3 months) to come up with the most natural, believable eye colors!
One of the best trends to come out of recent years has been grey as an eye color. We just love grey colored contact lenses to create a unique, one-of-a-kind eye look! We can recommend the most natural-looking greys on the market for an eye effect you’re sure to love! Pink Label Shade GreyLenses from EyeCandys feature two tones in a swirl pattern for a beautiful blend! EyeCandys Libre Grey colored contacts offer a slightly larger than average printed diameter for a big and bright eye look! And ourDesire Mist Grey lenses feature a dark outer rim to draw the focus to your most gorgeous grey assets!
Brown is the most common natural eye color. Even so, some like to enhance their brown eye look with the help of colored contact lenses. And we have some beautiful brown options! For a warm, sweet brown, take a look at the Libre Beige contacts, which provide a larger eye look. To add a bright shimmer to your eyes, try on a pair of Sunlit Hazel contact lenses. Desire Toffee Brown lenses offer a caramel brightness that really help your eyes pop - in any makeup look. And our Pink Label Grang Choco lenses feature rich, chocolate tones that accent your own.
Blue eyes have been long coveted among those of all ages. Associated with the dolls we’ve long adored, big, bright blue eyes are a look that is always in style! For a unique blue eye look, we recommend our Bunnie Jelly Blue colored contacts. Isla Blue Grotto offers a deep blue tone with hints of violet. Our Glossy Blue, with its radiant pattern is great for transforming dark eyes and a current best-seller! Sugarlook Bue colored contacts offer three tones of color that blend beautifully with your own.
The rarest natural eye color is green, and those with green eyes have often been considered special in their own right. But, we know you’re pretty special as well! And we want you to have the very best green eye experience with colored contact lenses! With multiple layered tones of color for an effect that almost appears to sparkle, EyeCandys Pink Label Obsession Khaki Green lenses are among our very favorite! Desire Lush Green colored contacts are reminiscent of those first sprigs of grass in early Spring - and feature a darker outer ring. Glosseline Green lenses offer multiple tones for a rich, layered look.
Hazel eyes are multifaceted and intriguing, blending green, brown, and yellow tones. And is there any word you’d rather use to describe your eyes than intriguing? EyeCandys Pink Label Dewy Hazel colored contact lenses are perfect for creating the perfect eye look for you! Glossy Ivory lenses are a current fan favorite, offering an eye transformation in seconds. Desire Sandy Beige colored contacts pair a lighter hazel look with a darker outer rim to draw attention to your eyes. And the Pink Label Nouveau Large Hazel lenses help enhance the perceived size of your eyes for a wide-eyed, innocent look!
